FAQs

How do I fit the shifter?

Firstly if you read this set of instructions and do not feel confident in fitting this product yourself please seek advice from a professional air-cooled Volkswagen mechanic.

*Put existing shifter (or shift rod) in to neutral position.

*Remove existing shifter, bolts, washers, spring and selector plate. You do not need use any of these items with your new Bug-Tech shifter.

*Screw threaded rod and ball in to the bottom of the shifters shaft and place shifter in to position. Adjust the ball so it sits comfortably in shift rod cup (not quite touching the bottom). Once you are happy with the fit nip up the bolt at the bottom of the shaft (do not over tighten)

*This is a good time to add more grease to the shift cup if needed.

*Now your Bug-Tech shifter is ready to fit, hold in place and screw down using the two bolts, spring/flat washers using the shortened allen key provided in you fitting kit.

*Now it’s time to test. You should be able to shift back and forward with very little pressure (you should NEVER have to force your car in to gear), if this feels too tight you may want to re-adjust the ball as it might be too low or high in the cup. All our shifters are set to the same specification. 99% of our shifters straight out of the box will be ready to take for a drive with no adjustment. If you find the counter pressure reverse section is too tight or too loose you can adjust you to suite using the two bolts going through the springs holding the side plate to suite.

Please Note

ANY SHIFTER WILL ONLY PERFORM AS WELL AS THE LINKAGE AND GEAR BOX ON THE CAR ITS FITTED TOO. If you have sloppy gear linkage this shifter will not cure the problem in the same way it will not stop you popping out of gear on a worn box. Please note all Bug-Tech shifters are engineered using the same program and with over 1000 shifters sold we’ve never received one back due to it’s design. Over 10 years of development has gone in to this product to make it as accurate as possible.

When Will My Bug-Tech Shifter Arrive?

All our shifters are individually made to order, engineered in Germany and hand assembled in the UK.

If you have a custom order production time will be discussed before you’re invoiced.

is there a Guarantee?
